First Greenpeace report examining the economic and social opportunity of a nuclear-free future.
The present document outlines the main conclusions of the study Greenpeace commissioned Abay Analistas Económicos y Sociales. The main goal of the study is to measure the economic impact -employment and GDP- of the dismantlement Spanish nuclear power plants and shifting nuclear energy to other sources. It also analyses the investment needed and the type of employment created by educational level and sectors that are most benefited.
Greenpeace hopes this study will facilitate the debate and decision-making process regarding the closure date of Spanish nuclear power plants and the energy model to adapt urgently for environmental reasons. The study shows that not only will this new energy model have no negative effects on the economy but it will also act as a positive catalyst.
