Dear [name of fishing minister],
Fish stocks are rapidly depleting. Destructive fishing is damaging our oceans. We need to take immediate action to rebuild fish stocks, stop this destruction and change the way we catch fish.
I welcome the reformed EU fishing laws that aim to end overfishing and restore depleted fish stocks to sustainable levels. I also ask you to ensure that all fish are caught sustainably by low-impact fishers from this day forward.
Our fishing sector should meet the best environmental and social standards in the world. Our country should be promoting the environmental benefits and employment opportunities associated with small-scale, low-impact fishing. Please reward those fishers that minimise environmental impacts with a greater share of the sustainably set fishing quotas and stop authorising monster boats that devastate marine habitats and vulnerable marine life. Monster boats have no place here nor anywhere!
Please inform me of your stance on this issue and let me know what you will do to ensure that fish are caught sustainably and fairly by low-impact fishers.
Kind regards,
