Hola Arctic Lovers...

Soy Paula, una osa joven y muy normalita que vivo en el Ártico, concretamente en Groenlandia. Aunque soy una mamífera de rutinas y no me gusta moverme mucho de mi territorio, hoy me ha tocado hacer un viaje largo, muy largo. Eso me pasa por "meterte en historias de humanos y en movimiento sociales" me ha dicho mi madre, pero bueno...esto es importante.

He llegado a Londres porque este año puede ser crucial para proteger mi hogar helado. Y es que mañana, un comité de representantes de los gobiernos se reúnen aquí en el centro de la capital inglesa, y tienen la posibilidad de dar el primer gran paso en la defensa del Ártico: asegurar la protección de un 10% del Santuario ártico. Será solo el primer paso, espero que de muchos otros para salvar mi paraíso de hielo.

Así que aquí me he venido para quedarme unos días y pedirles yo misma que no se olviden de mi tierra. Hoy me veréis recorriendo la ciudad haciendo de activista...(de verdad es que valgo para todo...) porque ser la protagonista de la película que puede ganar un OSPAR no es poca cosa.

Vamos, que esto de ser famosa tiene mucho de solidario así que, arreglada y con mi mejor peinado, recorreré las calles de esta ciudad diciendo a los políticos "Coming soon, an OSPAR for the Arctic", o en la lengua de Cervantes... "Próximamente...un Ospar para el Ártico"...vamos,  que queremos que el Ártico gane un premio y sea protegido. ¿Me ayudáis a disfundir este mensaje?

Hello Arctic lovers...

I am Paula, a young and very average polar bear from Greenland.  Normally, I don’t like to break my routine.  I’m a stay at home sort of mammal, and usually keep to my territory. But today I’m on a big advenure for an important reason.

I’ve travelled all the way to London because I need help protecting my home. Tomorrow, representatives of governments will meet here in this (very busy and much more noisy than I’m used to) city.  They could take a big step by declaring 10% of the Arctic Sanctuary, an area in the Arctic Ocean around the North Pole. This would only be the first official step, but I hope others would come soon to save my lovely ice paradise.

Hope to meet you while I’m in town these next few days.  Maybe we’ll run into each other, and I hope you’ll help me spread the word.  I’m only a bear after all.  It’s not like I’m a movie star or anything.  So I need all the help I can get.
